<p><strong>Bodhi Salon &amp; Spa, </strong>431 S. Jefferson, Ste. 106, will present live music by <strong><em>J.R. Top</em></strong> of <strong><em>Pilot Whale </em></strong>to complement its display by Trash Angels drummer and artist Bam Martin. A good painting will catch the viewer off balance and set them to imagining – what is happening here?” Karen says. Karla is a jewelry artist and a painter. <p><strong>Gillioz Theatre</strong>, 325 Park Central East, presents <strong><em>Santiago Jim Delgadillo</em></strong>. Originally from Tucson, AZ, Delgadillo has lived in Springfield for over six years. “I was brought up in a very religious environment and I often draw on this upbringing as the source of inspiration for my work,” he says. “My art has been described as “the Renaissance meets Warhol” as I use many religious icons within my compositions coupled with a “pop art” style. <p><strong> Global Fayre</strong>, 324 S Campbell, presents <strong><em>Photographer James Radke</em></strong>. James has put down roots in many areas across the United States. He has lived on both sides of the Rockies, in Colorado and on the shores of the Carolina coast. He lived in the Ozarks during the ‘70s and moved toward the northern California coast in the mid ‘80s, returning to the Ozarks in 2003. James’s photographs have been exhibited from Tokyo to Mannheim and San Francisco to Daytona Beach. When looking at these photographs you are looking at Springfield and the Ozarks through his eyes; these images are simply his visual memories and personal discoveries. <p>Join members of First Friday Art Walk for a fun, free, family-friendly holiday-themed event, 1-5 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Downtown Arts District. If you’ve never experienced Art Walk, this is your chance to find out what all the excitement’s about! <a href="http://ffaw.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/ccsmapr.pdf">Center City Saturday Map</a></p>
<p>“I’ve talked to several people who tell me they’d love to come to Art Walk, but they can’t make it downtown on a Friday night,” said Clarissa French, Art Walk communications director. “Because of that, we wanted to do something during daytime hours on the weekend to introduce families, seniors and weekend visitors to the fun and excitement that is downtown Springfield.”</p>
<p>Center City Saturday features live art demonstrations, giveaways, holiday open houses, kids’ crafts, holiday refreshments, raffles and more. Start out with lunch at one of our incredible downtown restaurants, spend the day visiting Art Walk galleries, then head to Jordan Valley Park for the Festival of Lights Kickoff and Lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree, followed by Fireworks at Hammons Field.</p>
<p>Here are the highlights:</p>

<li><strong>Bodhi Salon and Spa</strong>, 431 S. Jefferson, Ste. 106, presents its <strong><em>Holiday Open House</em></strong>! Enjoy holiday cookies and 20 percent off all gift certificates. For each gift certificate purchased, the client will be entered in a raffle for a Bodhi gift basket valued at over $300. Kids can enjoy face &amp; body painting, hair styles and polish, while mom or dad indulges in a complimentary chair massage. Plus, don’t miss <strong><em>Motley Achromatic</em></strong>, a show of photography by Ike Wever, Bodhi’s featured artist for November.</li>
<li><strong>Fitzwilly’s Gifts &amp; Antiques</strong>, 308 South Ave., features the <strong><em>Art of Hailey Patten</em></strong> through November and will have free holiday coloring pages for kids to take home.</li>
<li><strong>Fresh Gallery</strong>, located at the southwest corner of Campbell and Walnut, will hold its holiday open house during Center City Saturday. Enjoy live painting demonstrations and view the art of <strong><em>Featured Artists Angel Nahon and Ann Marie Rausch, </em></strong>plus works by 20 other regional artists.</li>
<li><strong>Global Fayre</strong>, 324 S Campbell, features handcrafted, fairly traded art objects, clothing and more from around the world. Each child who stops by between 1 and 5 p.m. Nov. 21 will receive a free, handcrafted bobblehead animal from Mexico. Offer good while supplies last!</li>

<p>In November, Art Walk welcomes a brand new member in <strong>Abundant Life Covenant Church</strong> on the square, puts the focus on local filmmakers with <strong><em>Movie Night at the Monarch</em></strong>, takes a look behind <strong><em>The Veil</em></strong> at <strong>Drury’s Pool Art Center Gallery</strong>, and explores the works of renowned artist and MSU art professor <strong><em>Sharon Harper</em></strong> at <strong>OTC Fine Art Gallery</strong>, which also introduces awesome rock by <strong><em>The Retro Gnomes</em></strong>, a band whose members range in age from 8 to 12.</p>

<p><strong>Abundant Life Covenant Church</strong>, 157 Park Central Square, has joined Art Walk as a new member! Abundant Life features seasonal photos from its magazine <strong><em>Present Truth</em></strong>, plus contemporary mixed media paintings and iphone abstract studies by Chris Wood. “Most of my art work is Abstract Expressionism in nature,” Chris said. “I love to paint but found a new medium on my iphone and began developing some studies I will be displaying this month.” Chris, who owns his own design business, has been designing and photographing for Present Truth for 10 years, and he and his wife have been Abundant Life members for 23 years. <p><strong>Gillioz Theatre</strong>, 325 Park Central East, presents <strong><em>Chad Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson</em></strong>. Come view Chad Thomas’s creatively inspired acrylic paintings of <em>Alice in Wonderland </em>and rock out to his music paintings featuring such greats as Nirvana&#8217;s Kurt Cobain. Elizabeth Anderson is a Sumi-E artist. <p><strong>Global Fayre</strong>, 324 S Campbell, presents <strong><em>Stringfield</em></strong>. A hammered dulcimer duo that has been playing together for over 10 years, Stringfield features Gail Morrissey and Victoria Johnson, both first place winners of the Southern Regional Dulcimer Championships. Gail placed at the Nationals and Victoria placed first as Oklahoma State Champ. They have traveled to Japan to participate in the Sister City exchange and have played many other events and festivals. Stringfield comes in many variations from duos, trios and a full Old Time string band with fiddle, guitar and bass added. <p>For parents who want to attend Art Walk but think they can’t afford child care, think again! <strong><em>Family Art Night</em></strong> at the Downtown Y offers child care for ages 3 months to 12 years, 6:30-9 p.m. every First Friday for only $10 per child. <p>The Y also invites the community to enter its <strong>Show Us Your Colors</strong> art contest. Win a free, three-month Y membership or a free program of your choice. Sherman Parkway,  features <em><strong>Grateful and Giving</strong></em> an exhibition of original artwork by Shirley Yiping Zhang presented by Springfield Regional Arts Council and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. The exhibition features more than 30 pieces of artwork created by Zhang using various Chinese styles including Gongbi, Xie yi, Gouache and Baimiao. Zhang’s artwork aims to express the beautiful parts of life in the world with a concentration on landscapes, flowers and birds. Some of her work also  integrates Chinese traditional painting styles, music, calligraphy, Chinese language and literature. This exhibit opened at the European Cultural Section in Paris and has traveled to Madrid, Tokyo, New York City and 80 other countries. This exhibit is dedicated to the cultural heritage of Bulgaria, where the Cyrillic alphabet was developed in the ninth century. Thirty poster designers were invited to design posters on the theme of an assigned letter of the alphabet, among them Cedomir Kostovic, professor in the department art and design at MSU. You can still view Art Walk shows at more than 20 member galleries through the month of August.</p>
<p><strong>A Must See in August: Randy Bacon&#8217;s Lost &amp; Found Photo Exhibit<br />
</strong>Of particular interest this month is the <em><strong>Lost &amp; Found Photo Exhibit</strong></em> at Randy Bacon Photography and Figment Art Gallery in the Monarch Art Factory, 600 W. College St.  This collection of photos and stories, focusing on families who are working through the grieving process ,is not to be missed. You will be deeply moved by the personal narratives and personal journeys of Randy&#8217;s subjects, all of whom have found a path to healing through Lost &amp; Found, a nonprofit organization that provides help and support to people mourning the loss of a loved one. <p>• <strong>Obelisk Home at the Inspired Commerce Building</strong> features <strong><em>Artist David Cogorno</em></strong>, a sculptor whose work “is a study of our interactions with spaces (and within them).”</p>

<p>For parents who want to attend Art Walk but think they can’t afford child care, think again! <strong>Family Art Night</strong> at the Downtown Y offers child care for ages 3 months to 12 years, 6:30-9 p.m. every First Friday for only $10 per child. Kids enjoy healthy activities and snacks, story time and a hands-on art project to take home. The Aug. 7 arts activity is <em><strong>Rainbow Fish</strong></em>. Arts in the Park, now in its eighth year, is a summer arts education program for 86 students from the Springfield Community Center. <p><strong>Fresh</strong>, located at the southwest corner of Campbell and Walnut, presents <strong>Featured Artists Ann Meese and Elaine Willig</strong> in August. Ann, a painter, fell in love with art early, majoring in art at MSU in the ‘60s. After a 35-year career as an educator and administrator – and raising four children – Ann has returned to her passion. “Creating a painting is a small journey,” she says. “At the end of that journey, what remains on the canvas is an impression that evokes a variety of feelings for me. Rosalie’s intent is to capture the beauty and details of nature by painting from her photographs, creating intense and vibrant watercolors. <p>For parents who want to attend Art Walk but think they can’t afford child care, think again! <strong><em>Family Art Night</em></strong> at the Downtown Y offers child care for ages 3 months to 12 years, 6:30-9 p.m. every First Friday for only $10 per child. Adults can enjoy Art Walk while the kids enjoy healthy activities and snacks, story time and a hands-on art project to take home. His previous job was as a bricklayer, and he often had to leave his family for long periods of time to go to work on construction projects. <p><strong>Inveno Health</strong>, located at 431 N. Boonville, will join First Friday Art Walk in June featuring works by beloved Springfield painter <strong><em>Stephanie Cramer</em></strong>. Inveno, a new medical device manufacturer and distributor located on the IDEA Commons*, is celebrating its presence in downtown Springfield with art, opening its doors to the public during the June 5 Art Walk. <p>Meanwhile, <strong>Fresh Gallery</strong> is pleased to announce a second featured artist for June. Fresh will feature <strong><em>Painter Sharon Warren</em></strong>. Fresh&#8217;s other featured artist is Photographer Clarissa French.</p>
<p>First Friday Art Walk runs 6-10 p.m. June 5 featuring new art, live music, hands-on activities, fun and fellowship in 23 participating galleries.</p>
<p>*IDEA is an acronym for Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and the Arts. The IDEA Commons is Missouri State University’s vision for a new type of urban research park that is blended with residential, retail and entertainment facilities, and supported by university programs.</p>
